Lieve describes her 2 years working for Lend Lease in the Jacksons Landing project as a most meaningful and rewarding experience.
The Quarry and The Distillery, triangular 18-19 storey 'twins', have become a Sydney landmark, clearly visible from the Harbour Bridge, Taronga Zoo and many parts of the city.
Designed by leading Melbourne architectural firm Denton Corker Marshall, the buildings are set in landscaped gardens with a podium level pool and gymnasium to maximise views.
The buildings are simple, clear, geometric compositions combining colour with height, and are a distinctive addition to the Sydney skyline.
The Distillery contains 95 apartments - typically 5 apartments per floor. They are configured so that on each floor three apartments have north-east views to the Harbour Bridge, and two apartments look north-west to Johnston Bay, with Glebe Island and Balmain beyond.
North, East and west-facing apartments are fitted with a range of louvre screens attached to the outside of their large balconies.
The Quarry, together with the two level Jones St Terraces to the east, and the 3 level Refinery Apartments flanking Tambua St to the west, complete the block bounded by Jones St, Bowman St, Tambua St and Distillery Drive. The Quarry's triangular form rises above the terraces, separated by private courtyards.
Two grid-sectioned facades, with variable depth balconies, are anchored by a series of vertical coloured parallel 'plates', which repeat along Distillery Drive, and extend beyond the top of the balcony screens at roof level. The tower is a simple, clear geometric composition of two contrasting planar surfaces - the coloured 'solid' and the articulated 'void'.
At city scale, and in distant views, this gives the twin towers a significant presence and a highly distinctive character, while breaking down the apparent mass and volume.
